ISO/DIS 14083:2023

Introduction

The scope of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions to be calculated and reported for transport operations consists of the sum of the emissions arising from vehicle and hub operation as well as the emissions associated with the provision of the energy used.

The total operational emissions and total energy provision emissions are reported separately as well as a total emission value. In each case, the emissions are quantified as mass of CO2-equivalent, through the application of appropriate GHG emission factors which include the full energy carrier life cycle.

Emissions from electricity consumed by the transport shall be quantified using the location-based approach by applying the emission factor that best characterizes the pertinent grid, i.e. dedicated transmission line, local, regional or national grid-average emission factor.

Relevant vehicles

As ISO/DIS 14083:2023 is only relevant in the European Union and North America, the relevant vehicles are the European and the American profiles listed on the Profiles page.
