Our PTV provided profiles defined for the usage in particular supported countries provide a controlled and performance optimized default for Matrix Routing API and Route Optimization Optiflow API, but they are intentionally limited in scope.
A custom routing profile is required if one of the following applies:
- Your required routing region is not covered by the supported countries of the predefined profiles
- Your fleet vehicles do not match any of the predefined vehicle profiles concerning vehicle dimensions or legal constraints
- You need to support customer-specific routing behavior which is not supported by default
In these cases, PTV provided profiles are not sufficient to model vehicle characteristics and routing behavior accurately. This makes custom routing profiles the primary mechanism for advanced and non-standard matrix routing and optimization scenarios.
Note: Custom routing profiles are not available as self service API and come with additional costs, depending on your needs and region coverage. Usage
Custom routing profiles are usable exclusively in Matrix Routing API and Route Optimization Optiflow API but not yet directly in Routing API. If you want to get information concerning the exact route path of a matrix relation please refer to Route IDs concept
Supported Features
By defining a custom routing profile, you can:
- model precise fleet-specific relevant vehicle parameters like
- dimensions (height, width, length, weight, etc.)
- vehicle configuration (number of axles, number of tires, engine type, etc.)
- legal restrictions (tunnel restriction codes, hazardous materials, etc.)
- apply additional advanced routing parameters like
- speed profiles to modify traveltimes in trafficMode CONSTANT (respectively AVERAGE without startTime)
- penalties per road category to influence the route path by penalizing certain road categories
- penalties for special roads (delivery only, residential roads)
- time distance weighting to continuously define preference of fast routes over short routes or vice versa
- particular avoidance parameters (highways, toll, ferries, rail shuttles, border crossings)
- turn restrictions like prefer passenger side turns
- enable matrix routing and optimization for geographic regions not supported by predefined profiles
- limit the profile to a certain region or set of countries
- exclude certain regions or set of countries from the profile
- enable the support of different trafficModes for optimization
- CONSTANT, AVERAGE
- support long duration traffic Incidents
- define if you want to take into account long duration traffic incidents like big long lasting construction sites
- incorporate your individual custom road attributes scenarios
